LANDFIRE is a shared interagency wildland fire management data program across the United States and Territories. Leadership, management, and oversight are through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service - Fire and Aviation Management and the U.S. Department of the Interior – Office of Wildland Fire.
LANDFIRE provides more than twenty landscape-scale geospatial products of biological and ecological data, including data such as (900+) vegetation types and (13/40) fire behavior fuel models that support all-lands planning, fire and natural resources management, operations, analyses and assessments.

A LF Major Partner is an organization and/or individual with unique expertise and interest in LF and demonstrates a willingness to apply their expertise to LF initiatives and efforts. Major Partners may provide or receive funds to/from LF to accomplish mutual goals, but that is on a case-by-case basis.
Major partners with LANDFIRE are USGS EROS with its Technical Support Services Contract (TSSC), The Nature Conservancy, US Geological Survey Gap Analysis Program, USDA Forest Service RMRS, and USDA Forest Service FIA.

| Vegetation plot data is a critical source of information supporting the development of LANDFIRE Program products. The USFS Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) National Program is the single largest contributor of geo-referenced, detailed vegetation plot information to the LANDFIRE Program. LANDFIRE and FIA have been partners since LANDFIRE was chartered in 2004, and the partnership was formalized in 2005 through a memorandum of agreement. FIA provides hundreds of thousands of current and historic, high-quality vegetation plots to LANDFIRE that support the development of LANDFIRE spatial data products such as Existing Vegetation Type, Existing Vegetation Cover, Existing Vegetation Height, Canopy Base Height and Crown Bulk Density, and have been used to evaluate product quality. |
| National Gap Analysis Program (GAP) GAP is a nationwide program that assesses and supports the overall conservation status of wildlife and is implemented in coordination with state and regional programs. In 2014, LF entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GAP to produce national-scale land cover, vegetation, fuel, and fire products. The programs worked together on LF Remap Strategy prototypes and are teamed up on LF Remap production work. GAP and LF's partnership was highlighted in a North American Bird Conservation Initiative (NABCI) bulletin. Landcover data is more detailed and thematically richer as a result of this partnership. |
