Error in VDDT model for biophysical setting 1504 in mapping zone 25: The relative age function for replacement fire in Class A was not attributed correctly.

Background & Advice:

As a result of final quality control procedures for LANDFIRE National, it was noticed that the relative age function for replacement fire in Class A in the VDDT model for biophysical setting 1504 was not attributed correctly. The relative age was set to 15, but according to LANDFIRE modeling rules, relative age should have been set to the end age of the class, in this case 30. When relative age is set to 15 in this model, the percent of the landscape in classes A-B are 96 and 4, respectively. When relative age is set to 30, as it should be according to LANDFIRE rules, the percent of the landscape in classes A-B changes to 46 and 54, respectively. Based on the assumption that the modelers achieved the results they wanted with relative age set to 15, it was decided to leave the model as is despite the violation of LANDFIRE modeling rules. However, it should be noted that the model will produce very different results if relative age is attributed differently. For future use, this model should be reassessed. Individuals intending to use this model locally may need to re-parameterize the model.
