LANDFIRE would like to acknowledge and thank everyone who has contributed data.
LANDFIRE relies on user contributed plot data for training sites in mapping processes. These data are the first priority for mapping (LF c2001 / LF 2015). All acceptable plot data will be converted and archived in the LANDFIRE Reference Database (LFRDB) for evaluation and potential use in future mapping needs.
LANDFIRE had targeted January 2015 as the key start date for the upcoming remap effort but due to additional data advances with the USGS Land Change Monitoring, Assessment and Projection effort, LANDFIRE is adjusting the beginning of the remap and extending the vegetation/fuel plot data call date to March 31, 2016.
There is still time to get your plot data in LANDFIRE. LANDFIRE is remapping data products with new imagery and plot data to reflect contemporary conditions. Additional plot data have great potential to improve data product quality, especially where limited plot data were available for LF c2001.
Plot Coverage: LF National Existing Vegetation Type (EVT) plot location map shows where vegetation plot data had limited distribution. LF National plot count by EVT highlights EVTs that had limited vegetation plot data.
Ultimately, additional plot data from ALL sectors of the country for ALL vegetation types will enhance the LF 2015 remap.
|LANDFIRE Plot Data Attributes|
|Category||Possible Plot Attributes|
|Sampling Unit||XY coordinates|
|Vegetation||Cover type and/or potential vegetation type|
|Full or partial list of plant taxa with estimates of canopy cover and height|
|Measurements of individual trees can include diameter, height, crown base height, crown ratio, crown class, or density|
|Fuel||Counts or biomass measures of fine and coarse woody material|
|Depth or biomass measures of litter and duff layers|
