Q. Why aren't there slash models (FBFMs 11, 12, 13) in regions with abundant slash?
Slash is not practically detectable using the 30-m resolution Landsat satellite imagery, especially where overstory is present. We therefore do not employ the slash models except in rare instances where local experts determine that the slash models give the best representation of the expected fire behavior. For example, slash models best represent areas of very thick blow-down where fuel loads exceed those depicted in FBFM10.
